Save Energy
For both new and existing homes there are many ways to save energy and reduce consumption all year round. From sealing air leaks and installing proper insulation to investing in high-performance windows and heat recovery ventilation systems (HRV). Canada's Building Code is changing and to meet the expanding requirements of the code the EnerGuide Rating System was developed by Natural Resources Canada to assess and rate the energy performances of houses thereby reducing energy consumption, lowering operating costs, increasing comfort and reducing environmental impact.
Save Money
Reducing your energy and maintenance costs all year round keeps your money in your pocket. You may also qualify for provincial grants, rebates and incentives from BC Hydro and FortisBC. Purchasing ENERGY STAR® appliances, lighting and other consumer products can save you up to 30% on utility bills. Lower energy bills may also help increase resale value as prospective buyers look for homes that are comfortable and save them money.
Reduce Environmental Impact
We know that when a building uses less energy we conserve our natural resources and cut down on emissions that contribute to climate change. We can choose to use renewable energy sources (ie: solar), sustainable technologies and building materials, and select innovative architectural designs that strive for efficiency. These choices all reduce our environmental impact. Your home will produce fewer greenhouse gas emissions and the earth will be a much greener, cleaner place for all of us.
Our Services
EnerGuide Rating (Basic) Service
The Basic Service consists of an on-site energy evaluation and energy modelling using approved compliance software. The software determines the estimated annual energy consumption and annual energy production from on-site renewables, using standard operating conditions, and produces an EnerGuide Rating. Other Basic Service outputs include rated energy intensity, rated greenhouse gas emissions and a reference house rating.
Energy Modeling
By incorporating a building's blueprints, plans and specifications into HOT2000, NRCan's modeling software, an energy model is generated and an *EnerGuide rating is determined.
Blower Door (Air Tightness) Test
A blower door test helps determine a building's tightness, the ACH (air changes per hour) and assists in locating the air leakage spots in the building envelope. Any home can be more air-tight and energy-efficient whether it is new or existing. We offer both pre-drywall blower door tests and final blower door tests
Construction Upgrade Service for New Homes
Through testing, analysis of building plans and evaluation we provide detailed information about a home's energy performance. We identify design and construction upgrades and determine which house components are best suited for reducing energy consumption. A full and comprehensive report is provided to builders in order to implement the necessary changes and display the *EnerGuide label. The label is proof of the energy rating and demonstrates that the builder or homeowner has met a commitment to build a home with high-energy performance.
Renovation Upgrade Service for Existing Homes
A home energy audit will take the guesswork out of renovations and provide key information to help homeowners and renovators make knowledgeable decisions about which upgrades and renovations will save them money and add to the comfort of their homes. We will work with you to determine which tests/services will provide the best information for your specific project. When the testing is complete a detailed report is compiled determining where your home is losing energy and offers recommended improvements.
Energy Incentives and Rebates
Programs such as the Canada Greener Homes Initiative and CleanBC provide energy efficiency incentives and rebates. We work with homeowners by helping to guide you through the process, provide energy evaluations and recommendations in order to maximize the rebates and grants on your energy efficiency upgrades.
